The first Friday of each month, we'll be posting a new Creative Adventure for you to play with. It might be a word, a color, an idea... we have lots of cool themes planned, and some special guest artists will join us from time to time to drop some super-charged inspiration. We'll be exploring our artistic joy right along with you, and on Tuesdays and Fridays we'll share some of the things we created and learned. We hope you will, too!
Why Creative Carte Blanche? Well, because we believe your art should be an expression of what you love. It should reflect your tastes (ever-changing though they might be) and tell a little part of your unique story.
Bottom line: Your art should delight you!
Creative Carte Blanche isn't about being a "good" artist (which is a completely subjective term, anyway). It's about being a happy artist. If you genuinely can't wait to sit at your craft table and lose yourself in the process, you're doing it right.
And, you know what? It doesn't matter which colors happen to be in style right now, or which brand of paint is outselling the others. We don't care if all the cool crafters are rocking shabby chic or stark industrial or tooth-achingly cute. We want you to be unapologetically YOU in your creative pursuits.
Certainly, there's a ton of great stuff we can learn from other artists. We're fortunate to have unprecedented access to hundreds of great teachers via the internet, DVDs, books, and so many other educational avenues. We absolutely encourage you to explore the work of crafters you admire, learn their techniques and experiment with their products. Every tutorial you watch, every art medium you get your hands on is a tool for you to stash away in your personal bag of tricks. Inspiration is available to us 24/7, so find it and soak it in!
At the Craft and Hobby Association Conference in January, we had the opportunity to ask some of our favorite artists their advice for crafters who would like to develop their own unique style. Their responses, as you'd expect, were awesome and invaluable. Check it out:
Your Creative Adventure for February: Try Something Artistic You've Never Done Before!
Whether it's a new product, a different color scheme, an unfamiliar technique, get out of your comfort zone and do something new. Remember, have fun and approach it with a sense of adventure and investigation.
We'd love to see your creations and hear about your process. When you're ready to share, please use the InLinkz gadget below to link your project here. Just a couple of easy rules to keep in mind: Our Creative Adventures are about the process as much as the end result, so we do ask that you link only one project, and that it be something new you've created specifically for this month's challenge. Commercial posts are not allowed.
Thank you so much for helping us launch this exciting new adventure. We look forward to sharing some creative bliss with you!
